Cable car closure July/August 2014
Each year the cable car that carries people to the Western plateau of Table Mountain closes for maintenance. This year the dates it will be closed are from the 26th July to the 10th of August. This fact certainly does not mean visitors and locals cannot still enjoy our wonderful mountain!
In fact it is a fantastic time to visit the plateau and not be overwhelmed by the number of visitors there.
There are numerous routes to explore both up and on top of Table Mountain. Covering a surface area of 56km sq, most of the mountain is wilderness and you can wander all day and hardly see a soul. The Western Plateau however, which is serviced by the cable car and has the magnificent and famous views of the city and Camps Bay can sometimes resemble a busy street. At capacity the cable car can transport more than 600 people an hour to the top.
So if you will be in Cape Town between the 26th July and the 10th of August, and are of reasonable fitness. Book a hike on Table Mountain. You will definitely not regret it.
