Multi day hike on Table Mountain
It is possible to do 2, 3 or 4 day versions of the trail if you don’t have time for the full five days. The Hoerikwaggo Trail which is a multi day hike on Table Mountain taking you from Cape Point to Cape Town has just been announced as one of Lonely Planets top 10 urban trails in the world. Following the chain of mountains that run through the magnificent city of Cape Town you hike for 5 days through a wilderness each day and sleep in comfortable accommodation each night. And yet are in a National Park a stones throw away from the most beautiful city in the world.
The full trail is magnificent with each day having totally different landscape and terrain. The accommodation is in permanent tented camps sleeping a maximum of 12 people in 2 man accommodation. The tents are comfortable and the communal ablutions have hot water. Cooking facilities include the inevitable braai area as well as gas stove tops and all the utensils you might need.
Most importantly, each camp is accessible by road so you can organise to have your bags driven around so only have to hike with a day pack. You can also have a good bottle of wine and steak brought in each evening – no dry camping food here!
If you don’t have time to complete the whole trail then it is perfectly possible to book just a section of it and so enjoy a night on the mountain. Away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
