The Eagles Nest hike up Table

Mountain

Eagles Nest is the small peak attached to the back of Table Mountain overlooking Constantia Nek. At only 421 metres you can get to the top of this peak pretty quickly. It is however a good steep hike that really gets the cardio vascuscular system going. So if you have limited time but want to see some magnificent views and have a little excercise then I recommend this route.

You start at the Constantia Nek car park. Head up the hill on the cement road and take the first path to the left as you pass the entry gates. This path heads steeply up the slopes and is somewhat eroded. It is however clear and easy to follow.

The path from Constantia Nek

About half way up the slope as the main path takes a right turn look for a faint path that continues straight up. This is a short cut to the Eagles Nest. If you miss this path continue up the main path until it remeets the concrete road. Don’t follow the road around the switchback turn but rather go straight ahead. The road comes to a dead end but a path leads on up to Eagles Nest from the end of the road. (the short cut takes you straight to this point)

Once on this path it leads you up to the nek between Eagles Nest and Constantia corner. There are 2 paths to your left that lead you to the top of Eagles Nest. Either is good. From the top you look down onto Hout Bay and across to the Vlakkenberg and Constantiaberg. Although only half an hour from your car. This hike is well worth the effort.
