A multiday hike encompassing the best

walking that the Cape can offer

The Table Mountain National Park which encompasses the incredibly scenic Table Mountain chain stretches  90km from Signal Hill in the North to Cape Point in the South. Famous for its variety of flora and fauna as well as for magnificent sea and mountain view. It is possible to walk the entire chain over a 5 day period  doing a full days hike each day with no 2 days being similar.

Accomodation is provided in comfortable tented camp accomodation with comfortable beds and mattresses, hot and cold running water and covered kitchen and social area.

Each camp may be booked separately so if you don’t have the time to do the full 5 day hike you may book for just one or 2 nights and as many days hiking as you have time for.

Ridgway Ramblers offer a fully catered guided experience on the trail with vehicle back up so you only need to carry a day pack each day.

Table Mountain Trail description.

Day 1. Cape Point Hike. (6 hours hiking)

Covering a distance of 16.5km today we hike the length of the Cape Point Reserve.

A chance to explore both the old and the new lighthouse before escaping the crowds by climbing Vasco Da Gama Hill (highest point 266m) and hiking to the whale look out point. Here at the foot of the steep cliffs the deep water offers one of the best whale viewing points in the Cape. (September to November are the best whale watching months) From here we continue along the coast line of the reserve to the main gate keeping an eye out for the herds of zebra, bontebok Eland and other wildlife that abound here.

Day 2. Scarborough to Kommetjie. (4 hours hiking)

Covering a distance of 10km, todays hike follows the Atlantic coast from the beach of Scarborough to Kommetjie. Today is mainly beach walking although some rock hopping is required in places and include the chance to enjoy a swim and explore the rockpools

Day 3. Kommetjie to Silvermine Nature Reserve (8 hours hiking)

Todays hike covers a distance of 18km. We begin with a 5km hike along the pristine sands of Noordhoek beach. From there we move away from the coast and into the mountains. We begin with a steep climb up Chapmans Peak above the famous toll road Peak (highest point 754 metres) followed by another climb into the Silvermine Nature Reserve. Highlights of today are the magnificent views over Hout Bayand the pristine fynbos that abounds.

Day 4. Silvermine to Constantia Nek (5 hours hiking)

Covering a distance of 16km today we descend from Silvermine via Blackburn Ravine and traverse the Constantiaberg mountain with views of Hout Bay before rounding the South side of the mountain and heading East towards Constantia with views of False Bay and the Southern suburbs. Reaching the   top of the Vlakkenberg overlooking Table Mountain is one of the many higglights of todays hike.  A final descent to Constantia Nek ends the day with our entry into the Orangekloof reserve.

Day 5. Constantia Nek to Cape Town (6 hours hiking)

Covering a distance of 18km, today we ascend Table through the beautiful Disa Gorge and the protected afromotane forest found here. There is also an opportunity to see the entrance to the Woodhead tunnel built in the 1800′s to transfer water from the reservoirs on top of the mountain to the city of Cape Town. Once on top of Table Mountain we pass the reservoirs and ascend the final 300m to Maclears Beacon (the highest point in the Table Mountain chain. 1085m) From here we follow the flat top overlooking the city of Cape Town before descending via the steep Platteklip Gorge.
