The Kasteelspoort to the cable car hike on Table Mountain
One of the really classic hikes on Table Mountain begins at the top of Kloof Nek and takes you to the cableway station on the Western plateau of Table Mountain.
This route offers some of the best views whilst also taking you through some of the most remote areas of Table Mountain. The terrain is varied and includes some ladders, whilst some of the photo opportunities will remain with you for ever.
After a 40 minute flattish hike along the Pipe Track we begin with the climb up Kasteelspoort. The views just get better and better as you ascend. The view above is taken from breakfast rock which is about half way up. Always a great place to take a break.
Springboard rock found at the old cable way station is the next stopping place.
Continuing on through the valley of the red gods and the valley of Isolation there is plenty of opportunity for some more rock scrambling.
There’s also an opportunity to explore the freshwater springs and refill your water bottles along the way.
Before scrambling up the ladders out of Echo Valley and up onto the plateau.
This hike should take you between 5 and 6 hours and is fun for the whole family.
